eCourses has two methods for calculating grade averages - points and weighted groups. Points are the default method. Weighted groups can be setup using the tools in the Assignments Index page.
Assumption: Weight Groups are already setup -- see Setting Up Weight Groups if necessary.
By default this is near the bottom of the course menu, but may vary if changed.

- Click the three vertical dots next to + Assignment
- Click Assignment Groups Weight Option

- Check the box "Weight final grade based on assignment groups".
- Adjust categories to match desired weights.
- Click Save

eCourses will rescale grade weights to equal to 100% even if the Total percentage does not add up to 100%. Do not set bonus points by over weighting past 100%. See Setting Up Extra Credit for more details.
For example if wanting to offer 3% bonus to the final average, including a bonus category of 3% will not result in a maximum possible score of 103%, eCourses will redistribute the calculation back to 100%. So in the example above the assuming a Bonus 3% and total of 103% then quizzes would become worth 5/103 or 4.85% of the final grade.
The assignments inside a weighted group are weighted according to their relative points to each other. So if 4 exams have weights of 100,100,100,200 the fourth exam is worth 2x each of the first 3 exams.
There is no method in eCourses to assign weights within a weight group other than based on points.
By default groups do NOT have weights assigned to them. Groups are initially only for organizing assignments and setting up categories in the Grade book. Weights can be assigned by going through the group weights dialog as denoted in this document.
On the assignments index page at the top right. See how to access Assignments Index page if necessary.
- Click on +group
- Name Group (Students will see this name in the grade book -- best practice is to match name in syllabus)
- Click Save
Repeat process as many times as necessary for groups.
