Outcomes, used for assessment, are included in grading rubrics inside of eCourses. Outcomes must be pre-loaded by CIITS each semester unless copying a course from a prior term that already has the outcomes loaded. This guide walks through the process of adding outcomes to a grading rubric.
This process can also be used if an assignment is used exclusively for assessment. That is the assignment does not factor into the class grade.
OVERVIEW VIDEO
STEP 1: VERIFY OUTCOMES ARE LOADED INTO COURSE
- On the Course Menu Click Outcomes
- Verify Outcomes desired are listed

If desired outcomes are missing reach out to John Starne @ [email protected] or call (936) 261-3297.
STEP 2: ADD OUTCOMES TO RUBRIC (ASSIGNMENTS)
Outcomes can be added to Assignments, Discussion and New Quizzes. Classic Quizzes (as of April 25 the majority of faculty are still using Classic Quizzes), This guide only cover adding to Assignment
- Go into the assignment to add outcomes to.
- Click on +Rubric at the bottom
- Click on Find Outcome
- Select Outcome to Import
- Uncheck use this criterion for scoring
- Click Import
Repeat for each additional outcome

Unchecking the Use this criterion for scoring is critical to avoid assessment items adding points to an assignment. Typically outcomes should not be included in the assignment score.
Note: Until the Rubric is saved the Outcomes (note the Bulleyes that indicate an outcome) will show 4 pts. Once saved the points will convert to dashes.

STEP 3: SET THE RUBRIC FOR GRADING (OPTIONAL)
- If the assignment has graded and non-graded components then check Use this rubric for assignment grading box
- Click Create Rubric

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS
If a rubric has already been created outcomes can be added to the rubric if NO ASSIGNMENTS HAVE BEEN GRADED.
- Click Edit
- Repeat sub-steps in Step 2

Once assignments have been graded a new rubric is created. Outcomes will not be recorded for the graded assignments. Regrading is necessary to capture the outcomes.
