When content is imported from semesters prior to Summer2025, if the Respondus Lockdown Browser (RLDB) was used, it is necessary to disable RLDB on all quizzes that existed from the import from a prior term to allow students to take the exam. This applies even if a decision has been made to not use Honorlock.
Process Overview Video
Step 1: Enable Legacy Do Not Use (LDB)
- Click on Settings on the Course Menu
- Click on the Navigate Tab
- In the lower portion, locate Legacy Do Not Use (LDB)
- Click the three vertical dots and click Enable
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Save
Full steps can be viewed at Adding and Removing Links on the Canvas Course Menu
Step 2: Navigate to Legacy Do Not Use (LDB) and Adjust Settings
- Log into your course in Canvas.
- Click the "Legacy Do Not Use (LDB)" link in the Canvas Course Navigation Menu (shown in figure 1 below).
Step 3: Turn off the LockDown Browser for any exams that currently require it.
Important! If you don't see the LockDown Browser link in the Course Navigation Menu, that means it's currently hidden. However, if exams that require it were imported from another course shell, they will still be connected to the LockDown Browser. As of Fall 2025, by default it will not be on the course menu. It has been changed from Lockdown Browser to "Legacy Do Not Use (LDB)."
The solution to this is to temporarily enable the LockDown Browser link long enough to turn off the individual exams that require it. If you don't remember how to enable a link in the Course Navigation Menu, see the Enable Navigation Links section of the "How do I manage Course Navigation links?" page in the Canvas Community.
On the LockDown Browser page, find the exams that show "Required" in the LockDown Browser column.
For each exam that requires the LockDown Browser, click the downward-pointing arrow and select the "Settings" option (figure3).
Step 4: Turn of the LockDown Browser requirement
- Click the "Don't require Respondus LockDown Browser" radio button
- Click the "Save + Close" button
Once the LockDown Browser requirement has been turned off, the next task is to set them up to use HonorLock*. Click the link below for the steps to prepare for Honorlock. Honorlock Resources for Instructors help documents.
* Note: To avoid confusion, be sure to hide the LockDown Browser link in the Course Navigation Menu when you are done removing exams from the LockDown Browser.
If you don't remember how to disable a link in the Course menu, see the Hide Navigation Links section on the "How do I manage Course Navigation links?" page in the Canvas Community.
