Turn off the LockDown Browser for Exams That will be used with Honorlock

Updated on

To convert LockDown Browser exams to Honorlock, it's important to make sure the exams are not set to use the LockDown Browser. If you've used Respondus LockDown Browser earlier this semester, or if you've copied/imported past exams that might have been set to use the LockDown Browser, chances are those exams are still set to use it. You'll need to turn off the LockDown Browser requirement for all of them. Follow the steps below to accomplish this.

Step 1: Navigate to the course's LockDown Browser settings

  1. Log into your course in Canvas.
  2. Click the "LockDown Browser" link in the Canvas Course Navigation Menu (shown in figure 1 below).

Step 2: Turn off the LockDown Browser for any exams that currently require it.

Important! If you don't see the LockDown Browser link in the Course Navigation Menu, that means it's currently hidden. However, if exams that require it were imported from another course shell, they will still be connected to the LockDown Browser.

The solution to this is to temporarily enable the LockDown Browser link long enough to turn off the individual exams that require it. If you don't remember how to enable a link in the Course Navigation Menu, see the Enable Navigation Links section of the "How do I manage Course Navigation links?" page in the Canvas Community.

  1. On the LockDown Browser page, find the exams that show "Required" in the LockDown Browser column as shown in figure 2.
  2. For each exam that requires the LockDown Browser, click the downward-pointing arrow and select the "Settings" option (figure3).

Step 3: Turn of the LockDown Browser requirement

  1. Click the "Don't require Respondus LockDown Browser" radio button (figure 4).
  2. Click the "Save + Close" button (figure 4).

Once the LockDown Browser requirement has been turned off, the next task is to set them up to use HonorLock*. Click the link below for the steps to prepare for Honorlock. Honorlock Resources for Instructors help documents.

* Note: To avoid confusion, be sure to hide the LockDown Browser link in the Course Navigation Menu when you are done removing exams from the LockDown Browser.

If you don't remember how to disable a link in the Course menu, see the Hide Navigation Links section on the "How do I manage Course Navigation links?" page in the Canvas Community.
